Weeks have gone by since the World Cup ended. Its aftermath has sparked a broader conversation about who football’s biggest tournament belongs to and how it should look in 2030. One postscript to that conversation comes from Mexico.

In a country with more than 100,000 people registered as disappeared, families searching for their loved ones confronted an unusual question: how do you participate in a national celebration while carrying the grief of a missing loved one?

While fans immersed themselves in 104 matches and the outcome for the teams they were cheering for, the answer by the civilian search collectives, who come together to find missing relatives amid state inaction and often face considerable risks, was disarmingly bold: neither to ignore the tournament nor reject it, but to claim a place in it.

In a country where football pitches can be found from volcanoes to fields of Mexican agave plants, they carved out a pitch of their own in the country’s most emblematic avenue. And then they played football.

Around 9 a.m., the chalk lines for another pitch began to appear on the asphalt of Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City. It was Mexico’s final day as a World Cup host. Sixteen kilometers north of the Azteca Stadium, the “Glorieta de los Desaparecidos,” a roundabout reclaimed by families as a memorial in 2022, was preparing for another game. These were among the pickup games that collectives organized as spaces of remembrance during the tournament. Pickup games took place the days Mexico was playing.

The games followed a simple script: small teams of three to five faced off until they reached a set number of goals. Some were part of the collectives; others –including football fans– were passersby who joined. Some became regulars; children particularly. In that convergence, football became a vehicle for telling stories of absence. 

“Preparations started one year before the initial kick-in,” Jorge Verástegui, one of the initiative’s organizers, told me. 

His brother and nephew, Antonio and Antonio de Jesús, disappeared in the northern state of Coahuila in January 2009, when the Zetas cartel dominated much of the region.

“We were coming from a very frustrating year of dialogues with the government, so many of us, searching for our loved ones, asked how to engage with a World Cup taking place in Mexico,” he said, wearing a Mexican national team jersey emblazoned with a large picture of his brother. Organizers distributed over 300 similar jerseys, so families could add photos of their missing loved ones. Search collectives joined from across the country. 

For César Contreras, a lawyer at Centro Prodh, a human rights group that has represented families for decades, football became a way “to collectivize joy but also reflect on how we got here.” The interventions wanted to challenge the stigma of disappearances as a “sad topic that nobody wants to hear about.”

When children joined, one father told Contreras he would later explain to his son who he had been playing with.

Supporters created the “Ajolote Buscador” a reworking of the salamander that is the  city mascot, that became a regular presence at the pickup games. In Guadalajara, another Ajolote denounced the lack of resources for identification.

Mobilization was not without backlash from government authorities. U.N. experts raised concerns about restrictions faced by families while trying to make their voices heard. And violence against those seeking answers or accountability continued. During the World Cup, two searchers were killed, one in Guanajuato and another in Sinaloa. 

Yet, as Andrea Horcasitas, one researcher who has worked alongside search collectives put it, “in a context marked by exclusion from the city and restricted access, collectives sent a message of belonging: this celebration is also ours, and here we are,” 

Among the families who joined the pitches were Javier Barajas and María del Tránsito Piña, teachers who were originally from Guanajuato. 

Their daughter, Guadalupe, disappeared in Salvatierra in February 2020. Her brother, Francisco Javier, joined the local search commission and helped locate her remains in one of Mexico’s largest mass graves. Three months later, he was killed. Investigations linked both crimes to the same criminal group. Their parents were later displaced from their home state.

Football was a family ritual, their mother told me. Francisco Javier and his mother watched matches together, while Javier and Guadalupe prepared the snacks.

“Now, I can’t watch football. It’s just too painful,” she said.

Yet the couple eventually found their way to the pitches. Barajas played several matches as a tribute to his son and daughter. For his wife, the pickup games offered a distinct space: “I can feel them when I wear that jersey with their photos.”

The resistance to FIFA’s commercialization projects is a reminder that we ultimately cherish these tournaments because of the stories they leave behind. Mexico’s search collectives offer one of them.

For the families, the work continues. Ensuring their security remains an urgent task, particularly in places where lethal violence against them concentrates. So does advancing investigations grounded in local realities and reducing the backlog in forensic identification. 

Their message still resounds: this tournament was also theirs, because their stories are part of Mexico.

A rendőrség látókörébe került egy kőrösmezői (Jaszinya) orvosnő, aki egy rahói járási orvosi konzultatív bizottság (LKK) vezetőjeként csúszópénz fejében segített hadköteles korú férfiaknak a katonai szolgálat alóli halasztás megszerzésében.

A rendőrség bűnügyi nyomozói és munkatársai szerint a nő rendszeresen fogadott el jogtalan anyagi juttatást férfiaktól azért, hogy elkészíttesse és kiadja a szükséges egészségügyi dokumentumokat.

A gyanúsítottat tetten érték a szolgálati irodájában, amikor éppen 1000 dollárt vett át.

A nyomozás adatai szerint a pénzt egy rahói férfi adta át azért, hogy a bizottság olyan igazolást állítson ki, amely szerint a férfinak folyamatosan gondoznia kell fogyatékkal élő feleségét. Az ilyen dokumentum alapján a férfi később a katonai szolgálatra történő behívás alóli halasztást kívánta megszerezni.

A rendőrség a nőt gyanúsítottként hallgatta ki. A hatóságok jelenleg azt is vizsgálják, hogy a korrupciós rendszernek lehettek-e további résztvevői.

Deux jeunes hommes ont été jugés lundi 17 août 2026, à la Cour de répression des infractions économiques et du terrorisme (CRIET), pour des faits présumés d'escroquerie en ligne. Ils ont acheté des téléphones d'occasion sans savoir que des données liées à des activités cybercriminelles s'y trouvaient.

Ils achètent des téléphones portables d'occasion et se retrouvent devant la CRIET. L'affaire examinée par la chambre correctionnelle de la Cour de répression des infractions économiques et du terrorisme implique un agent commercial de l'opérateur MTN, et un étudiant. Ils sont prévenus dans le même dossier, après que des données jugées compromettantes ont été découvertes dans leurs appareils.

Selon Libre Express, l'agent commercial affirme avoir acheté son téléphone auprès d'un vendeur ambulant. Il explique avoir utilisé l'appareil pendant plusieurs mois sans soupçonner la présence de données susceptibles de le compromettre.

Quant à l'étudiant, il présente une autre version des faits. Il indique avoir acheté son téléphone pour 80 000 francs CFA, après avoir versé 30 000 francs CFA au propriétaire. Ce dernier, qui serait parti en voyage, lui aurait demandé de ne pas utiliser l'appareil avant le paiement du solde. Comme son co-prévenu, l'étudiant soutient n'avoir eu aucune connaissance des données liées à la cybercriminalité retrouvées dans le téléphone.

Dans ce dossier, aucun des deux prévenus n'a été en mesure de produire un justificatif attestant l'acquisition de son téléphone. Le parquet spécial de la CRIET s'est appuyé notamment sur cet élément pour maintenir ses réquisitions. Il a requis une peine de cinq ans de prison, dont trois ans ferme, contre chacun des deux jeunes hommes.
Le délibéré est attendu le 19 octobre 2026.

La première session extraordinaire du Conseil économique et social (CES), 8e mandature, s'est ouverte, mardi 18 août 2026, sous la présidence d'Abdoulaye Bio Tchané. Cette session intervient dans un contexte marqué par plusieurs réformes ayant modifié le fonctionnement et les attributions de l'institution.

La nouvelle mandature du CES est en session extraordinaire depuis ⁸mardi 18 août 2026. Les travaux prévus pour durer trois jours, prendront fin jeudi 20 août prochain.
À l'ouverture, le président du CES a souligné l'importance des changements intervenus suites aux dernières réformes. « Nous sommes à un tournant », a-t-il déclaré, évoquant notamment la désignation de représentants du CES par l'Assemblée nationale, le rattachement des fonctions de Médiateur de la République au premier vice-président du Conseil ainsi que la clarification de certaines attributions de l'institution. Pour Abdoulaye Bio Tchané, ces évolutions rendent nécessaire une adaptation des règles de fonctionnement du CES. Cette mise à jour doit permettre au Conseil de mieux remplir sa mission auprès des pouvoirs publics et des citoyens. « Nous devons parachever la modernisation de notre institution », a-t-il insisté.

Règlement intérieur et Plan stratégique

Le principal point inscrit à l'ordre du jour de cette session est l'examen du projet de règlement intérieur du CES. Abdoulaye Bio Tchané a invité les conseillers à examiner le texte avec attention afin d'aboutir à un règlement « rigoureusement conforme à la loi et résolument tourné vers l'avenir ».
Au-delà de l'adoption de ce nouveau cadre réglementaire, le président du CES souhaite engager un chantier plus large avec l'élaboration d'un Plan stratégique de développement institutionnel. Celui-ci devrait servir de feuille de route pour la modernisation des services du Conseil et l'amélioration de l'impact de ses actions.

Cette première session extraordinaire marque ainsi une étape importante pour la 8e mandature du CES. L'adaptation du règlement intérieur aux nouvelles dispositions légales, la préparation d'un plan stratégique et la modernisation du fonctionnement de l'institution constituent les principaux chantiers engagés.

À travers ces réformes, le CES entend renforcer son rôle dans l'architecture institutionnelle du Bénin. Pour Abdoulaye Bio Tchané, l'objectif est de faire du Conseil une institution « plus utile, plus performante et plus résiliente », au service des pouvoirs publics et des citoyens.

A sérültet a 1004-es számú mentőegység látta el D. Bujbak mentőtiszt vezetésével. Az orvosi vizsgálat során a fiú bal lábszárának zúzódását állapították meg, majd megkapta a szükséges ellátást.

A gyermeket hordágyon szállították a járási kórházba további kivizsgálás és kezelés céljából.

Mindkét ország számára méltányos egyezség született Kanadával – jelentette ki Donald Trump amerikai elnök szerdán, miután az Egyesült Államok egyelőre három napra felfüggesztette a Kanadával szemben korábban kilátásba helyezett általános vámemelést a végleges megállapodás aláírása érdekében.

Az elnök újságírói kérdésre válaszolva elmondta, hogy kedd este telefonon beszélt a kanadai miniszterelnökkel, akivel megállapodásra jutott a kétoldalú kereskedelmet övező vitás kérdésekről.

Hozzátette, hogy a megállapodás véglegesítése zajlik, és annak eredményétől függ az, hogy az Egyesült Államok végleg eltekint-e a júliusban bejelentett vámemeléstől.

A részletek említése nélkül annyit mondott, hogy az amerikai mezőgazdasági termelők számára gyakorlatilag megszűnnek a kiviteli vámok Kanadát tekintve, és az amerikai gyártók is „el lesznek ragadtatva”.

A Kanadával szemben bejelentett 50 százalékos vámtétel washingtoni idő szerint szerdán 0 órától lépett volna életbe, ami az elnök döntése értelmében nem történt meg.
