Szíria Izraelt vádolja a Latakia kikötőjét ért rakétatámadás miatt – jelentette a Jediót Ahronót című újság szíriai hírforrásokra hivatkozva.

A szíriai állami televízió szerint öt robbanás rázta meg Latakia kikötőjének konténertároló telepét, és nyomukban több tűz is kitört, ezeket eloltották a helyszínre érkező tűzoltók. A támadás nyomán komoly anyagi károk keletkeztek. Az izraeli katonai szóvivő az eset kapcsán bejelentette, hogy a hadsereg nem kommentálja a külföldi híreket és értesüléseket.

A Földközi-tenger szíriai partszakaszán fekvő Latakiában található az ország legfőbb kikötője, amelyen keresztül az élelmiszerek és a létfontosságú áruk a háború sújtotta Szíriába érkeznek. Közelében, tőle húsz kilométerre található Oroszország legfőbb közel-keleti légibázisa, Hmejmím.

Izrael gyakran intézett támadásokat Szíriában általa iráninak minősített célpontok ellen, ahol a Teherán támogatta erők – köztük a libanoni síita Hezbollah – az elmúlt évtizedben Bassár el-Aszad szíriai elnök mögé sorakoztak fel. Jeruzsálem többször értésre adta: nem tűri, hogy a vele szomszédos Szíria iráni támadások kiindulópontjává váljon.

Az Emberi Jogok Szíriai Megfigyelőközpontja (OSDH) azt állította, hogy egy izraeli rakétacsapás november 24-én Homsz tartomány nyugati részén megölt öt embert.

Októberben Izraelnek tulajdonított két támadásban öt, Irán alkalmazásában álló fegyveres a szíriai főváros, Damaszkusz közelében, kilenc kormánypárti fegyveres pedig a közép-szíriai Palmürától keletre lévő T4-es légitámaszpont mellett vesztette életét a nagy-britanniai székhelyű háborús megfigyelő szervezet szerint.
