The European Commission wants to introduce a new age verification app to enhance child protection online. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in Brussels that the app is ready for launch and will soon be available to the public. Turkey has seen two school shootings in as many days. At a school in Kahramanmaraş on Wednesday, a 14-year-old boy shot eight pupils and a teacher before he was shot dead at the scene. A day earlier, a former pupil at a school in Siverek in Sanliurfa Province shot and wounded 16 people, including ten pupils, before killing himself. Commentators search for reasons to explain the attacks.

More than 100 authors have announced they will leave France's leading publisher Grasset in protest at the dismissal of its long-time CEO, Olivier Nora. Nora is to be replaced by Jean-Christophe Thiery, a close associate of ultra-conservative billionaire, media mogul and Grasset-owner Vincent Bolloré, who, the authors fear, will exert political interference. The press also voices consternation.

La Cour constitutionnelle du Bénin a proclamé les résultats de l'élection présidentielle du 12 avril 2026. Ces résultats donnent une large victoire au duo Wadagni-Talata de la majorité (94,27%) contre 5,73% pour le duo Hounkpè-Hounwanou de l'opposition. A travers un communiqué publié jeudi 16 avril 2026, le mouvement politique, Les Bâtisseurs s'est dit satisfait du déroulement du scrutin présidentiel du 12 avril 2026, qui consacre la victoire du duo Wadagni-Talata pour lequel il a travaillé.

Joie et satisfaction chez Les Bâtisseurs, l'un des mouvements politiques ayant soutenu la candidature du duo Wadagni-Talata de la majorité. Après l'annonce des résultats de la Cour constitutionnelle, ce jeudi 16 avril 2026, le mouvement politique a publié un communiqué de presse. A travers ce message, Les Bâtisseurs expriment leurs remerciements et leurs félicitations au peuple béninois qui dans sa majorité, est sorti massivement pour donner « une victoire nette au duo Wadagni-Talata ».
Le mouvement politique a également félicité toute la classe politique béninoise, les personnalités et tous les autres acteurs qui ont œuvré pour ce « succès éclatant » de son candidat. Les Bâtisseurs appellent par ailleurs le Président élu Romuald Wadagni et sa colistière Mariam Chabi Talata, à travailler pour le renforcement du concensus national, la paix sociale et la démocratie, gage selon lui, de développement.

Obstacles to businesses’ cross-border operations and expansion constitute a major hurdle to an effective single market. The International Monetary Fund estimates that persistent barriers to the single market represent the equivalent of a 44 % and 110 % tariff on goods and services, respectively. The Letta report emphasised that a single business code would be a ‘game-changer’, making all business procedures – from establishment to end of activity – smoother and more transparent.

To address this issue, the European Commission published a proposal on 18 March 2026 for a regulation establishing the 28th regime corporate legal framework that introduces a new legal entity, EU Inc. Any company would be able to register in any Member State and opt in to the EU Inc. company form. The framework would allow quick, fully digital registration that is automatically valid across the whole EU, thereby benefiting the operations and expansion of EU Inc. businesses. In addition, the proposal provides for a single tax treatment of employee remuneration through stocks and enables employee participation schemes. It also provides for fast-track termination of solvent companies, and a legal framework for winding up insolvent small and young innovative companies, known as start-ups.

Parliament adopted a resolution in January 2026 supporting the approach but remained cautious about its chances of success.

Un détenu a été jugé ce mercredi 15 avril 2026, par le tribunal de première instance d'Abomey-Calavi pour une affaire d'escroquerie. Incarcéré à la prison civile de Missérété, il a fait usage d'un téléphone portable pour escroquer ses victimes.

Depuis sa cellule à la prison civile de Missérété, un prisonnier parvient à escroquer les gens. Son dossier a été examiné ce mercredi 15 avril 2026, par le tribunal d'Abomey-Calavi.

Le prévenu selon les déclarations à la barre, a réussi à établir un lien avec l'amie d'une détenue sortie fraichement de la prison. Il sollicite l'aide de celle-ci pour l'acquisition d'une carte sim, et lui promet un voyage aux Etats-Unis. Après avoir réalisé ce premier coup, il s'est mis à usurper des titres de hautes personnalités du pays pour atteindre ses cibles.

Les ressources issues de ses manœuvres selon les déclarations à la barre, sont mises à la disposition de sa belle-mère et la femme l'ayant aidé à acquérir la carte sim. L'enquête ouverte dans le cadre de ce dossier a révélé qu'il aurait effectué jusqu'à 300 000 francs CFA de dépôt Mobile-Money (MoMo).

Devant le juge, il a nié l'usage de téléphone portable dans sa cellule.
Le ministère public requiert contre lui, une peine de 60 mois de prison, et une amende de 500 000 francs CFA.
Le délibéré est renvoyé au 27 mai prochain.

IPI and the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UN, in partnership with the UN Department of Peace Operations, cohosted a high-level, closed-door roundtable on “Looking to the Future of Action for Peacekeeping Plus,” on April 16th.

Since it was established in 2021, Action for Peacekeeping Plus (A4P+) has helped mobilize action on critical issues affecting UN peacekeeping operations, including peacekeeper capabilities and mindsets, strategic and operational integration, and cooperation with host countries. To ensure the framework is aligned to the current context, builds on achievements and challenges implementing A4P thus far, and in response to a request from the General Assembly’s Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations (C34), DPO has developed an updated A4P implementation framework. It establishes a strategic, focused, and streamlined set of priorities to improve the impact, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness of UN peacekeeping. This renewed framework will continue to mobilize action across critical priorities in UN peacekeeping operations, taking into account changing political, security, and resource imperatives. This includes recent reform efforts to ensure the UN remains “effective, cost-efficient and responsive,” as part of the UN80 initiative.

Member states participating in this ambassadorial roundtable heard from Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, on the new A4P implementation strategy. Following a briefing by the USG, member states engaged in an interactive dialogue on the future of A4P and A4P+.
