I'm unmoved by the hand-wringing over Israel's "isolation." When I came to the country 30 years ago, Israel had no relations with the USSR (and Eastern Europe), China, and India. There was no foreign investment and a UN General Assembly resolution still stood, condemning Zionism as racism. It will take more than a Cairo mob, a truculent Turk, and another UN resolution to make me feel "isolated."

For decades, claims are periodically trotted out that Israel -- by virtue of its actions -- is being faced with the threat of being isolated.

In describing Jerusalem's Decreasing Isolation, Efraim Inbar delineates 3 ways to measure a county's isolation:

• The number of states that have diplomatic relations with a particular country. 
• Membership in international governmental organizations and agencies. 
• The amount of negative attention a state receives in international forums and public opinion. 

The claim that Israel is isolated on account of lacking friends and allies on the international stage is constantly being debunked. Just this week, Arsen Ostrovsky wrote that Israel not as isolated as many people think.

He notes that on Monday alone:

• Netanyahu met the new Egyptian Ambassador, after a three year absence, and relations between Israel and Egypt are at a recent all-time high.
• PM Netanyahu also announced a trip to Kenya and Africa, following the Kenyan President’s successful visit last week
• The Knesset launched a new Israel-Africa caucus to strengthen ties with Israel, after Kenyan Foreign Minister Amina Mohamed was quoted as saying that most African countries “see Israel as a very close friend.”
• Both a senior delegation from the Bundestag, as well as the Italian Defense minister, visited Israel.
• There are reports that Israel and Turkey are on the verge of normalizing diplomatic relations

That is just within a 24 hour span on Monday.Ostrovsky notes Israel's other diplomatic successes over the longer term:

• Trade relations with India, China and Japan are at record high
• The Governments of Britain and Canada as well as the EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini have strongly denounced the BDS Movement, with a number of states in the US doing likewise
• Israel has been forming close strategic ties with Greece and Cyprus
• Israel continues to have strong diplomatic relations with Germany, where Netanyahu and Chancellor Merkel recently headed government meetings.
• Relations with Russia are good, with cooperation on the situation in Syria
• The threat of ISIS has improved relations between Israel and the Sunni Arab states.

Obviously, things are not nearly as good when you turn your attention to Israel's involvement with international agencies and organizations:  there are always problems at the UN, and Israel has problems with the EU, especially in connection with the labeling of Israeli products from Judea and Samaria ("The West Bank"). Getting back to Inbar, who was writing in 2013, he contends that while Israel's relations with the UN have not improved -- they have not gotten worse either. In fact, Israeli diplomats feel that in some ways, the UN has actually become less hostile.

After becoming a temporary member of the Western European and Other States Group in 2000, Israel became more integrated into the UN and has more involved in its agencies. Jerusalem has hosted UN-sponsored conferences and its international aid agency, Mashav, is supported by both the UN and other international agencies. In May 2010, Israel was also admitted to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, consisting of the 33 most developed countries in the world committed to democracy and the market economy. Israel is also an associate member of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), ensuring Israel's involvement in scientific projects in Europe.

Inbar notes that "Israel's enhanced position is based on European perceptions of its own self-interest rather than ideological alignment."

International forums and public opinion are another matter, what with the attempt to isolate Israel by delegitimizing it as an apartheid regime. The success of this 'Durban strategy' is not clear, with the effectiveness of the BDS movement debatable at best. Inbar suggests that some of Israel's isolation is the result of the Obama administration, specifically the diminishing clout of the US during his term as president.

Also of concern is the escalation of antisemitism and anti-Zionism on college campuses, not only because of the increase of the  phenomenon itself, but because of the lack of a strong response from the college and university heads as well. Yet even here, the fight on campuses is being joined. BDS campaigns there have not been as successful as in the past, with the defeat of divestment resolutions now making headlines.

Israel is not isolated.

Saying that obviously does not mean the threat of isolation does not exist. It does exist, and on all three levels -- diplomatic relations with other countries, international governmental organizations and agencies and  in international forums and public opinion. However, Israel is making headway in all three areas.

Yet, Israel to some extent will probably always fulfill the words of Balaam, who called the Jewish nation "a people that dwells alone".

After a 12-hour meeting between the EU and Turkey, a tired-looking Jean Claude Juncker took to the stage after 1am on Tuesday morning and boldly declared that a plan to send back migrants from Greek islands to Turkey was legal.

The European Commission president swiftly tried to bog the even more tired-looking press corps down in legalese. With impressively few glances at his notes, Mr Juncker regurgitated:

Article 33 and 38 of the asylum procedure directive clearly open the way for a solution of this kind. Because article 33, paragraph 2, letter C indicates that a country can refuse to consider a claim if a non-EU country is considered as a safe third country.

Andrássy út és a Hősök tere

2002-ben vált a világörökség részévé, 2310 méter hosszúságú, a Városligetet köti össze a Belvárossal. A Hősök terén találhatóak Budapest legjelentősebb épületei és szobrai, köztük a Millenniumi Emlékmű szobor, Gábriel arkangyal szobra, Árpád fejedelem szobra , Munka és Jólét szobra valamint itt tekinthető meg a Szépművészeti Múzeum is.

Budavári Palota

A 14. században épült azóta kisebb-nagyobb felújításokon ment keresztül mire elérte mai pompáját. Az idáig lévő összes művészeti elem megtalálható rajta. A Szent György téren tekinthető meg.

Citadella

A Habsburg királyi ház építette akkori funkciója szerint erődítménynek 1854-ben a Gellért-hegyen. Itt található még Szent Gellért püspök szobra, a Szent Gellért templom és a Szabadságszobor is.

Parlament

A Duna partján épült 1904-ben neogótikus stílusban. Jelenleg az Országgyűlések állandó helyszíne, 691 helyiségből áll. Magyarország legszebb épülete.

Szent István Bazilika

1891-1905 között épült az ország legnagyobb temploma 91 méteres kupolájával. Ez az épület klasszicista stílusban épült, itt őrzik Szent István király mumifikálódott jobb karját.

Lánchíd

1849-1851 között építették William Tierney Clark és Adam Clark remek mérnök tervei alapján. Sajnos mivel a világháborút nem élte túl így a 100. évfordulón újra kellett építsék. A hídról csodálatos kilátás nyílik a Budai Várra és a Dunára.

Ha esetleg valaki úgy dönt, hogy a fővárosban szeretne kikapcsolódni akkor ajánlatos ezekre a helyekre mindenféleképpen eljutni.

 

 

 

 

 

Plenáris ülés : A képviselők többsége egy szerdán megszavazott állásfoglalásban arra kérte az Európai Bizottságot, hogy ne újítsa meg az EU csempészet- és hamisítás ellenes, 2016 júliusában lejáró megállapodását a Philip Morris Internationallel (PMI). Helyette arra kérik a Bizottságot, hogy uniós és nemzetközi jogi eszközökkel harcoljon a csempészet ellen.

Ce député LR proche de François Fillon rentre d’une tournée auprès de l’opération Barkhane. Selon lui, l’aide de l’UE n’en est qu’à ses « balbutiements »

Depuis janvier 2015, l’armée de Terre est massivement engagée sur le territoire national en mission de protection et de dissuasion. Pour atteindre ces objectifs, la force opérationnelle terrestre est renforcée et portée à 77 000 hommes. Un défi considérable à relever qui s’appuie sur deux leviers : le recrutement et la fidélisation. Parallèlement, l’actualisation de la loi de programmation militaire 2014-2019 prévoit un appel renforcé à la réserve. Ce renfort  s’illustre notamment par un accroissement du nombre de jours d’activité (de 25 à 30 jours/homme/an).

2012-ben írtam egy blogposztot egy állítólagos utászcsörlőről, illetve ezek alkalmazásáról a mosztari öreghíd kőelemeinek kiemelésében játszott szerepéről. Furcsa dolog az internet, mert beütöttem a google-ba most, hogy "mosztar utászcsörlő" és csak az én posztom jött ki. A furcsa az, hogy ezek a katonai városi legendák mennyire bent tudnak maradni saját zárt rendszerekbe és az internet korában se írja le senki egy fórumon sem névtelenül.

A régi bejegyzés itt tekinthető meg, kb leírtam mindent, meg még egy csomó mást is a kérdés kapcsán.

Na mindegy. A poszt után nem sokkal jelentkezett Padányi József dandártábornok, aki volt olyan kedves és megküldte azt a tanulmányát, amit a témáról írt, és egyben megerősítette, hogy utászcsörlőről nincs szó :) Kb 10-11 oldal a tanulmány és lépésről lépésre végigveszi, hogy hogyan ment végbe a kiemelés. Ha lenne időm nagyon figyelmesen elolvasni, még egy fél tucat kérdést fel tudnék tenni, de azt majd legközelebb. A korábbi posztot talán azért is érdemes elolvasni, mert néhány körülményt, anekdotát még hozzátesz a tanulmányhoz.

Padányi 1998-ban a SFOR Magyar Műszaki Kontingens parancsnokhelyettese volt, majd a következő évben a SFOR műszaki főnöke.

A tanulmány letölthető erről a linkről, a dokumentum elejére odatettem a bibliográfiai adatokat, amiből kiderül az eredeti mű, hol mikor jelent meg.

Ha találunk még képeket, tervrajzokat, akkor most már fel tudom rakni ezeket is. Bármilyen banálisan hangzik három évembe telt idáig, amíg megoldást megoldottam.

Plenary sessions : Next year’s EU budget priorities should continue to be tackling the migration and refugee crisis while at the same time investing more and better to accelerate today’s slow economic recovery, MEPs say in a resolution voted on Wednesday. Parliament highlights the problems of long-term and youth unemployment and disparities in economic development across the EU. It also underlines that the refugee crisis will not be a temporary one.

Plenary sessions : A deal among the key EU institutions – Parliament, the Council and the Commission - to improve the planning, quality and transparency of their law-making was endorsed by MEPs on Wednesday. It provides for more democratic long-term planning, a new database of planned EU laws, and more information for the press and public on negotiations among EU institutions.
