The World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) in May 2016 will be the culmination of a global consultation process. The three-year initiative responds to the need to adapt the humanitarian system in order to make humanitarian action more efficient and effective in keeping pace with the rapidly changing context of emergencies. Consultations leading up to the Summit have provided the opportunity to gain perspectives from different regions of the world. As a result, three main priorities have been highlighted: the need for humanitarians to protect and preserve the dignity of people affected by conflict and disaster; a call to find innovative and sustainable ways of meeting people's needs; and a demand from the global South to 'localise' humanitarian response by strengthening local, national and regional capacities to prevent, manage and respond to crisis. There is potential for the European Union (EU) to take a leadership role in the process and influence the WHS outcome. ECHO´s new need assessment tools and the Linking Relief Rehabilitation and Development (LRRD) as well as Resilience approaches offer a framework for responding to the challenges posed by protracted crises. This study recommends that the European Consensus on Humanitarian Aid should be applied as a model for a 'Global Consensus on Humanitarian Action' or a 'Global Compact' recognising the diversity of today's humanitarian response system while taking advantage of all actors' complementary role. Furthermore, the EU and member states must commit to placing protection at the centre of humanitarian action and ensure that the EU´s humanitarian aid is not regarded as a crisis management tool, and allowed to become an instrument of its foreign policy.

A cseh külügyminiszter nem lát okot arra, hogy az Egyesült Államok az ukrajnai válsággal összefüggésben felmerült állítólagos orosz fenyegetés miatt katonákat vagy nehézfegyvereket helyezzen el Csehország területén. "Katonai szempontból a Cseh Köztársaságban nem látok okot az elhelyezésre" - jelentette ki Lubomír Zaorálek egy vasárnapi televíziós vitában.

Ugyan komoly erőszakos cselekményeket még csak a bíróság előtt láthattunk a madagaszkári fővárosban, Antananarivóban, de rendkívüli módon feszült patthelyzet alakult ki az országban (főként mondjuk szerencsére tényleg csak politikai színtéren), hiszen június 13-án a madagaszkári Alkotmánybíróság elutasította a Hery Rajaonarimampianina elnök ellen előző hónapban benyújtott keresetet, amellyel az ellenzéki erők által uralt parlament az elnök eltávolítását kérte – arra hivatkozva, hogy az ország 16 hónappal ezelőtt megválasztott vezetője többször megsértette a madagaszkári alaptörvényt. Az ellenzék egyöntetűen elutasította a bírósági döntést, amely mindenféle jogalapot nélkülöző beadványnak minősítette a keresetet, hangsúlyozva, hogy Rajaonarimampianina nem sértette meg az alkotmányt – utóbbi egyébként pont az ellenzéket vádolta meg ezzel, hiszen a 151 tagú törvényhozás szükséges kétharmada szavazta meg állítólag a beadványt, miközben Rajaonarimampianina szerint többségük nem is volt az ülésteremben a szavazás időpontjában.

A támadások hátterében egyébként a legtöbb politikai szakértő az ország két egykori (és mai) erős emberét, Andy Rajoelinát és Marc Ravalomananát sejti, hiszen mindkettőjüknek vissza kellett lépniük attól a választástól, amelyet a mostani elnök nyert meg (és hát azt látjuk, hogy mindketten a mai napig ott sertepertélnek a hatalom közelében, készen állva arra, hogy bármikor ismét a színpadra lépjenek) – egy biztos, ne számítson senki arra, hogy itt végetérnek a csatározások, egyrészt Rajaonarimampianina kezében ott van a lehetőség a parlament feloszlatására, míg utóbbiak most már sokadszor azzal fenyegetőznek, hogy az utcára vonulva erőszakkal fogják kikényszeríteni az előrehozott elnökválasztást. Akármelyik opció is válik valóra (talán utóbbinak van nagyobb esélye) nem igazán jobb napok jönnek a sáskajárással, élelmiszerproblémákkal küzdő szigetországban.

Több mint 20 év kihagyás után újra Oroszországban vendégszerepelt a héten a Magyar Állami Népi Együttes. A három orosz nagyvárosban vastapssal köszönte meg a közönség a fergeteges műsort. Nyizsnyij Novgorodban, Moszkvában és Kazanyban az Oroszországi Magyar Kulturális Napok keretében rendezték meg az előadásokat.
