The EU’s ambition to become a climate-neutral economy by 2050, and its ability to sustain the green and digital transition and achieve strategic autonomy, all rely heavily on reliable, secure and resilient access to critical raw materials (CRMs).

On 16 March 2023, the Commission put forward a proposal for a regulation on CRMs. It introduces the concept of strategic raw materials (SRMs), which are key for some strategic technologies and vulnerable to shortages. The general objective of the proposed regulation is to improve the functioning of the single market by establishing a framework to ensure the EU’s access to a secure and sustainable supply of CRMs. To achieve this, the regulation would pursue four specific objectives: strengthening the whole SRM value chain; diversifying the EU’s imports of SRMs (so that by 2030, no third country would provide more than 65 % of the EU’s annual consumption of each SRM); improving the EU’s ability to monitor and mitigate the CRM supply risk; ensuring the free movement of CRMs and products containing CRMs placed on the EU market; and ensuring a high level of environmental protection, by improving their circularity and sustainability.

The proposal is now in the hands of the co-legislators. In the European Parliament, the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) is responsible for the file.

La Confédération Africaine de Football a annoncé dans un communiqué la date du tirage au sort de la phase de groupe de la prochaine Coupe d'Afrique des Nations qui se jouera en Côte d'Ivoire du 13 janvier au 11 février 2024.

A quelques mois de la 34e édition de la Coupe d'Afrique des Nations qui se déroulera en Côte d'Ivoire, la CAF a annoncé la date du tirage au sort de la phase de groupe de la compétition.

Dans un communiqué rendu officiel ce vendredi 19 Mai 2023, l'instance faitière annonce que la cérémonie aura lieu le 12 octobre prochain, soit un peu plus d'un mois après la fin des éliminatoires.

« Le Comité Exécutif a noté les progrès réalisés en Côte d'Ivoire dans les préparatifs de la Coupe d'Afrique des Nations TotalEnergies Côte d'Ivoire 2023. Le Président Motsepe a exprimé sa gratitude au Président de la Côte d'Ivoire, S.E. Alassane Ouattara et au Premier Ministre M. Patrick Achi pour leur coopération et leur engagement à faire en sorte que la Coupe d'Afrique des Nations TotalEnergies Côte d'Ivoire 2023 soit une totale réussite. Le Comité Exécutif a annoncé que le tirage au sort officiel de la Coupe d'Afrique des Nations TotalEnergies Côte d'Ivoire 2023 aura lieu le jeudi 12 octobre 2023 », peut-on lire dans le communiqué de l'instance faitière du football africain.

Un grave accident de circulation dans la matinée de ce vendredi 19 mai 2023 à Tchaourou a fait deux morts, des blessés et des dégâts matériels.

Collision entre un camion et un véhicule ce vendredi. L'accident a eu lieu à Tchatchou, l'un des arrondissements de la commune de Tchaourou. Le bilan provisoire fait état de deux morts (le chauffeur de la voiture et une passagère) et des blessés graves. Ces derniers ont été conduits à l'hôpital. Le véhicule a été totalement endommagé.

On 17 and 18 May 2023, the III International Legal Forum “Tashkent Law Spring” was held in Tashkent. The event with the theme “Fundamental Rights as Eternal Values” was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan and supported by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan (PCUz).

This major international law event in Central Asia brought together over 800 participants, including senior officials of Uzbekistan and foreign countries, leading international experts in the fields of law, international relations and economics, as well as representatives from major law firms and international organizations.

The forum provided an open platform to discuss contemporary legal trends through the prism of fundamental rights, to exchange views on ongoing legal reforms in Uzbekistan, and to develop proposals for improving legislation and law enforcement practices in the light of best international practices.

Among the various topics discussed, one session focused on ensuring the rule of law through good regulation. The session reflected on the progress made by Uzbekistan in developing its Private International Law (PIL) legislation as well as in strengthening co‑operation with leading PIL intergovernmental organizations such as the UNIDROIT, with both activities supported by the PCUz.

The development of private international law, which regulates relationships between individuals in an international context, is increasingly necessary due to globalization. PIL is essential to improve citizens' access to justice across borders, improve business climate, attract foreign investment, and strengthen the protection of private property rights.  

In this regard, the PCUz has been supporting the government of Uzbekistan in improving its national policies and mechanisms for strengthening legal protection of private property rights through the development of the private international law framework in the host country.
