Council and European Parliament reach a provisional agreement on the Reform and Growth Facility for Moldova.

At the 1st plenary session 2025 of the European Committee of the Regions, the President of the European Council, António Costa, emphasized the crucial role of local and regional governments in shaping the future of Europe and its citizens. He called for a united effort to strengthen Europe’s defence, security, and competitiveness, highlighting the importance of multi-level governance to tackle the current challenges that Europe is facing.

The Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on the targeted revision of the waste framework directive.

The Council today approved conclusions setting guidelines for the EU’s annual budget for 2026. The guidelines will provide political guidance to the Commission in preparing the budget for next year.

In the context of the implementation of the EU’s new economic governance rules, the Council endorsed Hungary’s medium-term fiscal-structural plan and set its net expenditure path.

The Council today approved the Commission’s positive assessment of the amended recovery and resilience plans submitted by Latvia and Belgium.

The Council adopted an assistance measure worth €6 million under the European Peace Facility that will benefit the Armed Forces of Montenegro.

Der Präsident des Europäischen Rates, António Costa, hat die Mitglieder des Europäischen Rates zu einer Sondertagung am 6. März 2025 eingeladen. Im Mittelpunkt der Beratungen werden die Unterstützung für die Ukraine und die Verteidigung der EU stehen.

Der Rat hat einen neuen EU-Sonderbeauftragten für Zentralasien ernannt und das Mandat des EU-Sonderbeauftragten für die Golfregion verlängert.

European Council President António Costa travelled to Kyiv for the International summit on the support of Ukraine, on the third anniversary of Russia's invasion. He delivered his remarks reiterating EU's full solidarity and support for Ukraine and its people, as well as calling for credible peace negotiations that involve Ukraine and the EU. President Costa also emphasised EU's efforts to deliver on its defence capabilities and work towards a future where Ukraine thrives as an integral member of the EU.

Der Rat hat angesichts des andauernden Angriffskriegs Russlands gegen die Ukraine Sanktionen gegen weitere 48 Personen und 35 Organisationen verhängt.
