A NATO célja egy nukleáris fegyverek nélküli világ megteremtése, ugyanakkor nem hisz az egyoldalú leszerelésben, ha ugyanis csak olyan országok, mint Kína, Oroszország és Észak-Korea rendelkeznének ilyen fegyverekkel, a világ nem lesz biztonságos – jelentette ki a NATO főtitkára.

Jens Stoltenberg a NATO-tagországok védelmi minisztereinek csütörtökön kezdődő kétnapos tanácskozása előtt arról beszélt, hogy a biztonság szavatolása érdekében a szövetségnek következetesnek kell maradnia, ami azt jelenti, hogy fenntartja a védelemre, elrettentésre és a párbeszéd fenntartására támaszkodó politikáját.

Elmondta, a tagállamok védelmi miniszterei a kétnapos ülés során a kollektív védelem fokozását szolgáló képességek új céljait határozzák meg annak biztosítására, hogy az euroatlanti térségben a szükséges erők a megfelelő időben a megfelelő helyen legyenek. Megállapodást írnak alá a tagállamokban esetlegesen eltérő technológiai eszközök különbségeinek csökkentésére, valamint egy innovációs alapot hoznak létre egymilliárd euró értékben a közös biztonság szavatolására. Emellett megállapodnak a mesterséges intelligenciára vonatkozó első NATO-stratégiáról is – tájékoztatott.

Afganisztánnal kapcsolatban a főtitkár azt mondta, a miniszterek értékelést végeznek a misszió működésének eredményeiről, valamint a kivonulás tanulságairól. Számba veszik majd, mely intézkedések hoztak eredményeket, melyek fulladtak kudarcba. Noha a tálibok ismét hatalomra kerültek, és szenvedést okoznak az ország lakosainak többsége számára, a szövetséges erők missziója nem volt hiábavaló – jelentette ki.
