À Vilnius, une importante manifestation a réuni 10 000 personnes, ce mardi 9 décembre, pour défendre l’audiovisuel public. Les manifestants demandent le retrait d’une proposition de loi qui simplifierait le limogeage du directeur de la radio-télévision publique LRT. Cela fait craindre une politisation du conseil d’administration du média, dénoncée par le Conseil de l’Europe ou Reporters sans frontières.

La Finlande vient d'achever un nouveau tronçon de clôture à sa frontière avec la Russie, qu'elle accuse de déstabilisation migratoire. En décembre 2023, Vladimir Poutine aurait, en effet, fait passer près de 1 000 migrants clandestinement via cette frontière, longue en tout de 1 340 kilomètres. Reportage au cœur des pays nordiques, dans la petite ville frontalière de Salla, en Laponie finlandaise, où se trouve cette toute nouvelle clôture.

Les pays de l'Union européenne (UE) ont validé, lundi 8 décembre, un net durcissement de la politique migratoire du continent, ouvrant notamment la voie à l'envoi de migrants dans des centres situés hors de ses frontières. Ce tour de vis est défendu par l'immense majorité des 27 États membres, sous pression de la droite et de l'extrême droite. Ces mesures doivent également être approuvées par le Parlement européen.

La commission du commerce international a adopté sa position sur les mécanismes de sauvegarde pour les importations agricoles liés aux accords commerciaux avec les pays du Mercosur.

Volodymyr Zelensky a été accueilli, lundi 8 décembre, au Royaume-Uni par le Premier ministre Keir Starmer, ainsi que le président français Emmanuel Macron et le chancelier allemand Friedrich Merz. L'occasion pour le président ukrainien de faire le point avec ses alliés sur la situation de la guerre avec la Russie et le plan de paix proposé par les États-Unis, très favorable au Kremlin. Les quatre responsables politiques ont détaillé leurs attentes et rappelé leur soutien à Kiev.

En cette année 2025, l’Espagne commémore à la fois le retour de la démocratie dans le pays et les 50 ans de la mort de Franco. Émission spéciale avec l’historien Stéphane Michonneau qui publie «Franco le temps et la légende», aux éditions Flammarion.  

Dans le nord de la France, les associations dénoncent la présence de plus en plus régulière de militants anti-immigration britanniques aux abords des campements de migrants. Vendredi 5 décembre 2025, elles ont signalé une nouvelle opération d'intimidation d'exilés et d'humanitaires, menée cette fois par un groupe nommé Raise the colours, qui multiplient les allers-retours avec Douvres en Angleterre.

Ce lundi 8 décembre, la Commission européenne a dénoncé les « déclarations complètement folles » d'Elon Musk après les attaques du patron de xAI, maison mère de X, qui a estimé que l'UE devrait être « abolie ».

Plusieurs membres de la Coalition des volontaires vont se retrouver ce lundi 8 décembre à Londres pour une réunion consacrée aux discussions en cours entre Washington, Moscou et Kiev pour tenter de mettre fin à la guerre en Ukraine. Emmanuel Macron et le chancelier allemand Friedrich Merz sont attendus dans la capitale britannique à l’invitation du Premier ministre Keir Starmer. Ils seront ensuite rejoints par le président ukrainien Volodymyr Zelensky.

L'agence internationale pour l'énergie atomique (AIEA) a annoncé, dimanche 7 décembre, que ses équipes étaient en Ukraine pour y évaluer la sécurité nucléaire de la centrale de Tchernobyl. L'AIEA dit avoir constaté que l'arche, le bouclier de protection de la centrale nucléaire, endommagé par un drone explosif en février dernier, avait perdu « ses fonctions de sécurité primaires ». Cette arche recouvre le réacteur qui a explosé en avril 1986, et protège un premier sarcophage.

The third Disability Rights Week in the European Parliament takes place from 1 to 5 December 2025. On the initiative of the EMPL Committee, all Committees, Policy Departments, Vice-Presidents, Questors and Directorates General are invited to organise hearings and other types of activities focusing on the rights of persons with disabilities in their respective policy and administrative areas.

The rights of persons with disabilities have been high on the agenda in the past mandate and the EU and its institutions have been very active in that respect. Many flagship initiatives stemming from the Commission's Disability Strategy 2021 to 2030 have been put in place but we are still awaiting an update on its second half. The UN CRPD Committee put forward a report on the EU in Spring this year, containing recommendations how the EU and its institutions can better comply with the UN CRPD and thus gave us homework. The forthcoming Disability Rights Week is an excellent opportunity to discuss these issues with, and to learn from persons with disabilities and their representative organisations.

The Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) will hold a workshop on the Human rights dimension of EU-Latin America relations in the context of the EU-CELAC Summit on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, from 15:00 to17:30. Organised with the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly, in the aftermath of the recent summit where EU-27 and CELAC-33 leaders committed to further enhance cooperation, the meeting aims to turn the focus to human rights.

The workshop will open with a testimonial from Sakharov Prize Laureate 1992 Asociación Madres de la Plaza de Mayo. Prof.

Par Engstrom, from University College London will set the scene for each panel - providing first an overview of the situation of human rights in Latin America and then turning to human rights accountability mechanisms, seeking the best ways for the EU to engage - and Prof. Maria Garcia, from Bath university, will speak in the forward-looking panel.

Discussions will further bring together representatives from the International Federation for Human Rights and Human Rights Watch, as well as the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, the European External Action Service and the European Commission.

The Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) will hold a workshop on Mechanisms of international justice to fight impunity on Thursday, 4 December 2025, from 9:00 to 10:45. Against the backdrop of challenges and attacks on multilateral institutions, the discussion will explore how international tribunals, universal jurisdiction and transitional justice processes can contribute to accountability, justice and reparation for victims at international level.
Two prominent academics will present their study on the matter, Prof. Veronika Bílková and Dr Federica Cristani from the Institute of International Relations in Prague, with findings and recommendations.

The workshop will then turn to a forward-looking discussion on a possible EU strategy to protect the international system of justice, bringing together representatives from FIDH - The Global Initiative Against Impunity for International Crimes and Serious Human Rights Violations, the Open Society Foundation, and the European External Action Service.

The policy dialogue on “Transnational Repression (TNR): Mapping Trends and Improving Responses” is jointly organised by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN Human Rights), the European Parliament Sub-committee on Human Rights (DROI) and the European External Action Service (EEAS), in collaboration with the Tackling TNR Europe Civil Society Working Group.
TNR constitutes an increasing danger both by posing systemic threats to human rights, civic space, democratic institutions and the rule of law and by frequently undermining national security, sovereignty and legal order of host states.

Policy makers and experts from EU institutions, the UN, Member States, civil society and academia will come together to exchange views about their findings and experiences, and explore ways to improve responses to TNR, including through policy initiatives, synergies and collaborations. This is a concrete follow-up action by DROI on the recently adopted by the Parliament report on Addressing TNR of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs).
