Manchester embodies reinvention like few other places. It built the world’s first industrial economy, watched it rust, and recast itself as the capital of England’s north. When protests turned deadly at the Peterloo massacre, it helped galvanise a tradition of organised labour and democratic reform — one that later produced the suffragettes, founded there by Emmeline Pankhurst. And when the band Joy Division collapsed, the remaining members re-emerged as New Order. That instinct — not to reassemble what broke, but to build something new — was the animating spirit when the University of Manchester’s Global Development Institute convened researchers in mid-April to ask: is the era of Development over? And if so, what replaces it?

The Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on the proposal to establish the programme for agile and rapid defence innovation (AGILE), a new €115 million instrument designed to provide rapid, agile and targeted financial support to small and medium-sized enterprises.

Today, the Council agreed its position on the 2027 EU draft budget – the last annual budget of the current multiannual financial framework.

EU support will help member states implement the pact on migration and asylum, ensure efficient management of the EU’s external borders, and fight crime.

The temporary protection status granted to those fleeing Ukraine will be extended until 4 March 2028, delivering on the EU’s commitment to support Ukraine and its people for as long as it takes.

Auf der 28. Tagung der Beitrittskonferenz mit Montenegro wurden die Kapitel 8 (Wettbewerbspolitik ) und 29 (Zollunion ) vorläufig abgeschlossen.

Erklärung der Hohen Vertreterin im Namen der EU zur Erklärung einiger Drittländer, sich dem Beschluss (GASP) 2026/1364 des Rates über restriktive Maßnahmen angesichts von Handlungen, die die territoriale Unversehrtheit, Souveränität und Unabhängigkeit der Ukraine untergraben oder bedrohen, anzuschließen.

The Council authorised the formal conclusion of the EU-Mexico Interim Trade Agreement, following the European Parliament’s consent.
