Az orosz védelmi minisztérium éjjel jelentette be, hogy Bahmut felszabadítása az orosz hadsereg tüzérsége és légiereje által támogatott Wagner rohamegységek offenzívájának eredményeként befejeződött. A város elfoglalásáról Jevgenyij Prigozsin, a Wagner magánhadsereg alapítója szombaton tett bejelentést.

A háború előtt 72 ezer lakosú város fontos közlekedési csomópont és a Donyec-medencében kiépített ukrán védvonal fontos eleme volt. A város birtoklásáért folytatott harcok 2022 augusztus 1-jén kezdődtek.
