On 13 May 2025, the Committee on Foreign Affairs held a public hearing on the political relations between the European Union and the United States of America. AFET Members had the possibility to discuss with a panel of three distinguished experts on transatlantic relations about the state of relations and prospects for future developments.
The public hearing is a part of the preparation of the AFET own-initiative report on EU-US political relations by AFET Standing Rapporteur on the United States, Michal Szczerba.

On 8 April 2025, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on International Trade held a joint public hearing on the implementation of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement in force since 1 May 2021. The Commission presented its annual reports of 2024 and 2025 on the implementation and application of the Agreement and Members had the possibility to discuss with a panel of four expert speakers the implementation of arrangements and prospects for future developments.
The public hearing was a part of the preparation of the AFET-INTA joint implementation report on the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement.

Die EU-Kommission will die Asylverfahren reformieren. Dafür sollen die Kriterien für die Definition von „sicheren Drittstaats“ gelockert, wie aus einem am Dienstag veröffentlichten Vorschlag hervorgeht.

Die Beziehungen zwischen der Regierung in London und der EU erholen sich von einem „Allzeittief“, so der britische Außenminister David Lammy. Die EU und das Vereinigte Königreich unterzeichneten am Montag einen Sicherheitspakt. Zudem einigte man sich auf ein "Reset"-Abkommen, das Verpflichtungen in den Bereichen Lebensmittelhandel, Energie und Mobilität enthält, welches von beiden Seiten als "Win-Win-Situation" bezeichnet wurde.

Frankreich plant, ein Gefängnis - inklusive „Hochsicherheitsabteilung“ für verurteilte Drogenhändler und "Islamisten" - im Westen Französisch-Guayanas aufzubauen, so der französische Justizminister. Bis 2028 sollen dort rund 500 Insassen, 7.000 Kilometer vom französischen Festland, untergebracht werden.

Italiens Ministerpräsidentin Giorgia Meloni lud am Sonntag in Rom US-Vizepräsidenten J.D. Vance und die Präsidentin der EU-Kommission Ursula von der Leyen zu einem gemeinsamen Gespräch ein. Es war das erste offizielle Treffen zwischen Vertretern der USA und der EU seit dem Amtsantritt von Donald Trump.
