Debate: EU asylum: what to make of the planned reform?

After months of wrangling the EU institutions have agreed on a reform of the asylum system, the result of which will be a tightening in many areas. Arrivals with little chance of being accepted are to be processed at the EU's external border and swiftly deported if their application is rejected. The burden on the main countries of entry such as Italy and Greece is to be relieved by means of a mandatory solidarity mechanism. Europe's press is divided.

Debate: Poland: public media management dismissed

Poland's new government has dismissed the entire management of the country's public television and radio broadcasters. The move follows a parliamentary resolution with the aim of restoring the impartiality of the public media which it stated had "clearly carried out propaganda tasks" under the national-conservative PiS government. PiS supporters and MPs have gathered in protest outside the headquarters of public television broadcaster TVP to "protect" it.

The judges ruled that Trump's role in the storming of the US Capitol on 6 January 2021 violated the constitution, which states that no public official may participate in an insurrection against the state. 30 milliards FCFA pour le Centre des Affaires Maritimes de Cotonou

La Banque Ouest-Africaine de Développement (BOAD) a approuvé ce mercredi 20 décembre 2023, lors de sa 139e session ordinaire à Cotonou, le financement partiel d'un projet de construction et exploitation du Centre d'Affaires Maritimes (CAM) par la Société Immobilière du Centre des Affaires Maritimes (ICAM) SA au Bénin.

Un prêt de 30 milliards FCFA de la BOAD pour le financement partiel d'un projet au Bénin. Il s'agit du projet de construction et d'exploitation du Centre d'Affaires Maritimes (CAM) par la Société Immobilière du Centre des Affaires Maritimes (ICAM) SA au Bénin. Selon le communiqué de presse de la BOAD, le CAM permettra de centraliser les activités administratives portuaires avec le regroupement des entités publiques et privées opérant dans l'écosystème portuaire. Il contribuera également à l'accroissement des activités portuaires à travers une meilleure gestion des espaces du PAC.

Les administrateurs ont approuvé au total 5 nouvelles opérations pour un montant global de 141,3 milliards FCFA, portant au montant inédit de 978,7 milliards FCFA le total des engagements à date de la Banque pour l'année 2023 et à 8 196,1 milliards FCFA, le total des engagements (toutes opérations confondues) de la BOAD, depuis le démarrage de ses activités opérationnelles, en 1976.
