Plenary sessions : An EU Commission proposal to tighten up existing rules for the Transparency Register, which lists independent organisations and other lobbyists seeking access to the EU institutions, was welcomed by MEPs in a debate on Wednesday evening. The changes would include the Council in the system alongside the Commission and Parliament, clarify definitions, improve monitoring and introduce penalties for breaches. MEPs debated the proposal on Wednesday evening.

Plenáris ülés : A szír kormány a múlt hónapban mondta fel az Egyesült Államok és Oroszország közvetítésével megkötött tűzszünetet az országban, ahol most egyre erősödnek a harcok. A szerdai plenáris ülésen az EP-képviselők Ivan Korčok, a szlovák uniós elnökséget képviselő miniszter részvételével vitatták meg a szíriai helyzetet. Sokan Oroszország fellépését kritizálták, míg mások szerint az Uniónak kellene nagyobb szerepet vállalnia a válság megoldásában.

Plenáris ülés : A szexuális és reprodukciós jogokra vonatkozó szigorú lengyel jogszabályok további szigorításának terve heves vitát váltott ki szerdán az Európai Parlamentben. A képviselők főleg az abortusz szigorításáról beszéltek, de éles vita bontakozott ki arról is, hogy az EP milyen jogon szól bele a kérdésbe.

Plenary sessions : The rejection in last Sunday’s plebiscite of the peace deal agreed by the Colombian government and the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) was a disappointment, but it does not compromise the peace process, which a majority of MEPs consider “irreversible”. In a plenary debate on Wednesday, they urged the EU to continue supporting the negotiations and insisted that the FARC should be kept off the list of terrorist groups.

Plenáris ülés : Az ingyen Interrail bérlet kérdéséről vitázott a Parlament kedden. Az EP-képviselők túlnyomó többsége támogatta a javaslatot, hogy minden 18. évét betöltő európai fiatal Interrail bérletet kapjon, amely egy bizonyos időszak alatt ingyen vasúti utazási lehetőséget nyújt Európában. Az Interrail bérletet már így is több millió fiatal használja, jelenleg azonban 20 eurótól akár 400 euróig is terjedhet az ára.

Plenary sessions : The EU Commission should review EU legislation on mass dismissals, in view of plans to close down Caterpillar and Alstom in Belgium, say MEPs in a non-legislative resolution passed on Wednesday. MEPs also call for support measures for ”these workers and their local economies.”

Plenary sessions : Moves to make Poland’s stringent sexual and reproductive health laws still more restrictive will be debated late on Wednesday afternoon. The debate will follow an EU Commission statement at around 18.00. MEPs are most concerned about Polish parliament bills on women’s access to legal abortion and to In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).

Plenary sessions : Action to stop massacres in Syria, implement migration policies and border controls, and ensure a balanced approach to trade deals while defending EU industry are the key challenges that EU heads of state or government should tackle at their 20-21 October meeting in Brussels, said Parliament’s political group leaders in a debate with the Slovak Council Presidency and EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Wednesday.

Plenary sessions : The latest developments in Syria, including failed US-Russia attempts to revive the ceasefire followed by the Russian-backed Syrian government offensive against Aleppo, will be debated on Wednesday at 15.00. Following this, MEPs will take stock of Colombia’s referendum vote narrowly rejecting a peace deal with the rebel group FARC. Later, MEPs will also assess the deteriorating political situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Plenary sessions : Revised EU rules to prevent trade in goods and services that may contribute to torture or execution were approved by MEPs on Tuesday. In negotiations with member states on previous drafts, the European Parliament inserted a ban on the marketing and transit of equipment used for cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of people in third countries.

The European Parliament will vote on Tuesday to give its consent to the ratification of the Paris climate agreement by the European Union, after Council gave its green light on Friday. For Environment Committee chair Giovanni La Via (EPP, IT) the decision allows the EU to remain a leader in climate action ahead of the next round of talks to take place in Marrakech in November.

Általános : A Parlament támogatja, hogy az EU minél előbb ratifikálja a tavaly megkötött nemzetközi klímamegállapodást, így az mihamarabb életbe léphet. A 2015 decemberében tartott COP21 párizsi csúcstalálkozón 195 ország jelezte, hogy támogatja minden idők legjelentősebb, jogilag kötelező klímaegyezményét. Giovanni La Via (néppárti, olasz), az EP környezetvédelmi szakbizottságának elnöke válaszolt a klímamegállapodással kapcsolatos kérdéseinkre.

MEPs’ plans to tighten up EU car “type approval” rules, in the wake of the VW scandal, were discussed in the Internal Market Committee on Thursday. These include stricter supervision of tests done before a car can be placed on the market and more stringent obligations on EU member states to check that those already on the road meet all EU safety, environmental and production requirements.

Budget Committee MEPs reversed all the cuts proposed by the Council to the draft 2017 EU budget to meet the needs of the migration crisis and slow economic growth, in a vote on Wednesday. They also boosted funding to fight youth unemployment and increased spending on research and infrastructure projects. The full plenary will vote on 26 October on a proposed budget amounting to €161.8bn in commitments, €4.13bn more than the original Commission proposal.

Általános : EP-képviselők és a zsidó közösség vezetőinek részvételével tartottak kedden konferenciát az európai zsidók jövőjéről az EP-ben. Az eseményen sokan aggodalmukat fejezték ki amiatt, hogy egyre erősödik az antiszemitizmus és szélsőjobboldali populizmus EU-szerte. Martin Schulz EP-elnök elmondta: „Zsidó barátaink és szomszédjaink, mi kiállunk mellettetek azokkal szemben, akik a gyűlöletet terjesztik. Európa nem az igazi Európa a zsidói nélkül. Európa az otthonotok!”.
