Le ministère de la Défense nationale (MDN) a annoncé la neutralisation de 350 terroristes en 2016 : 125 abattus et 225 arrêtés.

Dans son numéro de décembre 2016, la revue El-Djeich a indiqué que « L’ANP poursuit sa mission en toute détermination et rigueur, en réalisant durant cette année des résultats sur le terrain, couronnés par l’élimination d’un nombre conséquent de terroristes et de criminels ainsi que la récupération d’importantes quantités d’armes de guerre, de munitions et différents autres effets ».

La revue n’a pas manqué de rappeler « les opérations de sécurisation des frontières et de lutte contre la contrebande».

D’après la même source, pas moins de 2.615 contrebandiers,  6.103 immigrants clandestins  et 414 narcotrafiquants ont été arrêtés au cours de l’année 2016.

En outre, 1.8 million de litres de carburants et 2.556 kg de produits chimiques pour fabrication d’explosifs ont été saisis.

S’agissant des moyens roulants, 447 véhicules tout-terrain, 258 camions, 340 véhicules et 112 motos ont été interceptés durant la même année.

Les forces antiterroristes ont réussi également à saisir d’importantes quantités de munitions, entre autres dix-sept (17) roquettes 57 mm hélicoptère, dix (10) ceintures explosives, (1244) chargeurs de munitions, (735) kilogrammes de substances explosives,  (653 kg) de dynamite.

Sehr überraschend angesichts dessen, dass Tennis eine Weltsportart ist. Belinda wird sogar von Sportlerinnen aus Randsportarten wie OL, Klettern oder Karate verdrängt.

Denn Mitte Februar hat Belinda Bencic allen Grund zur Freude. Sie steht im Final des Turniers in St. Petersburg und knackt erstmals die Top Ten. Dort bleibt sie trotz Verletzungen bis im Juni. Hinzu kommen heuer noch zwei WTA-Halb­finals. Eine Leistung mit einem Traumstart ins Jahr,die es zu würdigen gäbe.

Gleichzeitig dokumentiert die Nichtnomination für die Sports Awards aber auch den Abstieg Bencics im zweiten Halbjahr, in dem sie bis auf WTA-Rang 43 gefallen ist. Eine Platzierung, die überhaupt nicht dem grossen Talent und dem sportlichen Können Belindas entspricht.
Die wichtigste Aufgabe ist es, nach dem körperlich verpfuschten Jahr 2016 wieder Vertrauen in den eigenen Körper zu finden.

Eine Aufgabe, welche die Teenagerin optimistisch angehen muss. Dazu gehört nebst dem täglichen Training auf dem Platz auch das Vermitteln von positiven Gefühlen. Solche bekommt Belinda derzeit in Florida. Dort ist sie gut aufgehoben, auf gutem Weg zum Ziel.
Dieses muss sein, in einem Jahr auf ein tolles 2017 zurückzublicken – und bei den Sports Awards auf dem Sofa zu sitzen.

European Union visa-free travel for Ukrainians is closer, according to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.

The commissioner issued a statement after the December 19 meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council on December 19.  She said: “On visas: another issue that I know is very much close to the Ukrainian population and authorities’ hearts. The Council and European Parliament have agreed on the revised suspension mechanism. This paves the way for final procedural steps, which will enable visa liberalisation for Ukraine soon”.

In turn, Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze said the EU had once again confirmed that the Ukrainian side had fulfilled all its obligations.

The Council was chaired by Mogherini. The Ukrainian delegation was led First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Stepan Kubiv, who was accompanied by other government officials.

In other related news, the Netherlands appears closer to ratifying the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, after the amendments requested by the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, were accepted by the other 27 EU member states last week. The Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area has been provisionally applied since January 2016 and has already increased the trade volume between the EU and Ukraine by 7.5% in the period October 2015-September 2016 compared to the previous year.

In terms of recent developments, the Association Council welcomed the signing of the financing agreement for Public Administration Reform (PAR) programme, a €104m contribution to support policy development, civil service and human resource management.

Furthermore, the announcement of the PRAVO programme of €52.5m adds up to the support of rule of law in Ukraine, namely via judiciary and law enforcement.

The meeting concluded with the signing of financing agreements for four Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) programmes in which Ukraine participates and of five agreements between Ukraine and the European Investment Bank (EIB), underlining the importance of further successful cooperation in line with the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ukraine and the EIB.

The president of the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) Group in the European Parliament Gianni Pittella has criticised Joseph Kabila’s decision to postpone the presidential election in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“The attempt of Joseph Kabila to remain in power beyond his term is unacceptable and is a danger to both the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and to the Great Lakes region as a whole, which will suffer a new wave of instability,” he said. “We strongly believe that respect of democracy, peace and peaceful transfer of power must now be the only priority for all political forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Unfortunately Kabila is showing time and time again his desire to go the opposite way.”

In turn, S&D MEP Cécile Kyenge said: “Unless there is any last minute surprise, everything points to the likelihood that this will actually happen and Kabila is increasing his resolve to keep his hands on the Congolese presidency illegally.”

“The European Union cannot continue to support a country which does not comply with its constitutional responsibilities, from the Head of State to the municipal level,” added Kyenge. “If Joseph Kabila continues on his current path and establishes an illegal and illegitimate regime the EU must act.”

Der Schweizer Xavier Justo ist am Dienstag aus dem Gefängnis in Thailand freigelassen worden. Dies berichten thailändische Medien. Justo war einer von 150'000 Personen, die der neue thailändische König Maha Vajiralongkorn begnadigte. Weltweit bekannt wurde Justo, da er den vermutlich grössten Korruptionsskandal (1MDB) in Südostasien ins Rollen gebracht hat. 

Seine vorzeitige Haftentlassung hat Justo einer im August erlassenen Amnestie durch den kürzlich verstorbenen thailändischen Königs Bhumibol zu verdanken. Die Amnestie wurde nun von seinem Sohn und Nachfolger bestätigt.

Justo arbeitete von März 2010 bis April 2011 als Direktor bei der Ölfirma Petrosaudi International. Dort kopierte er vor seinem Austritt belastende Daten und E-Mails, die auf dubiose Machenschaften hinter dem malaysischen Staatsfonds 1Malaysian Development Berhad (1MDB) hinweisen. Von dessen am Kapitalmarkt aufgenommenen Milliarden ist ein Grossteil in vermeintlichen Ölfeldern Turkmenistans und in Offshore-Oasen wie den Seychellen und den British Virgin Islands versickert.

Mit den Daten wollte er Petro Saudi erpressen. Als die Firma nicht darauf einging, hat Justo das Material an die Presse weitergegeben und damit den 1MDB-Skandal ins Rollen gebracht. (SDA)
