The Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold debates with the Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jafaari on 19.10.16, and with the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, on 20.10.16. The Committee will then vote on its non-legislative report on the implementation of the Common Security and Defence Policy, as based on the Council’s Annual Report to Parliament on the Common Foreign and Security Policy. The non-legislative report on establishing a European Defence Union will also be voted.

Members of the Foreign Affairs Committee are calling on all actors in Georgia to defuse tensions ahead of the second round of elections and to engage in a real, genuine debate. It is key to develop Georgian democracy through a proper checks and balances system, in which the democratic opposition must be respected by the winning party. It is also crucial that all parties take part in the elections.
