The 25th EU-Japan Summit takes place on 17 July 2018, in Tokyo. At the summit, leaders are expected to sign the EU-Japan economic partnership agreement and the EU-Japan strategic partnership agreement. Also, they discuss strategic cooperation and international relations. The EU is represented by Donald TUSK, President of the European Council, and by Jean-Claude JUNCKER, President of the European Commission. Cecilia MALMSTRÖM, European Commissioner for Trade, also participates at the Summit. Japan is represented by Prime Minister Shinzo ABE.
The Informal Meeting of the Ministers responsible for Competitiveness is held on 16 and 17 July 2018, in Vienna. The meeting focused on Internal Market and Industry takes place on 16 July. On 17 July, the meeting focuses on Research.
On 14 July 2018, Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, visits Libya.
President Donald Tusk and President Jean-Claude Juncker represent the EU at the 20th EU-China summit. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang hosts the summit. EU leaders also have talks with President Xi Jinping. EU and Chinese leaders discuss bilateral trade, investment relations and foreign and security issues. They are expected to express their joint support for rules-based trade. They are also expected to confirm their mutual engagement for the modernisation of the World Trade Organisation.
EU Finance Ministers meet on 13 July 2018, in Brussels, to follow up on the June European Council, exchange views on the Austrian presidency work programme and approve the terms of reference for the G20 meeting of 21-22 July.
The Informal Meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers is held on 12 and 13 July 2018 in Innsbruck, Austria. The meeting starts on 12 July with the home affairs working sessions. On 13 July there is a working breakfast, attended by the justice and home affairs ministers of the current EU Trio Presidency, namely of Estonia, Bulgaria and Austria, and those of the Eastern Partnership, namely of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The informal meeting of EU justice ministers, dedicated to the topics of e-evidence, enhancing judicial cooperation in civil matters and mutual recognition in criminal matters, follows this working breakfast.

Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and from the EU meet in Brussels on 16 and 17 July 2018. "Building bridges and strengthening our partnership to face global challenges" is the theme of the meeting. At the end of the meeting, EU and CELAC ministers are expected to adopt a declaration.
EU Finance Ministers of the eurozone meet on 12 July 2018 in Brussels to be briefed on the outcome of the June Euro Summit and on issues related to deepening the EMU on which Ministers will work until the next Euro Summit in December.
A meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government is held on 11 and 12 July 2018, in Brussels. Against the background of recent challenges in the transatlantic relationship, the EU seeks to continue the good collaboration on security and defence between the two organisations.
The EU-Ukraine Summit takes place on 9 July 2018 in Brussels. The implementation of the association agreement and its free trade area, the Minsk agreement, the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, and regional issues are at the top of the agenda. The EU is represented by Donald TUSK, President of the European Council, and by Jean-Claude JUNCKER, President of the European Commission. Ukraine is represented by President Petro POROSHENKO. The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica MOGHERINI, Vice-Presidents Maroš ŠEFČOVIČ and Valdis DOMBROVSKIS and Commissioner Cecilia MALMSTRÖM also participate at the Summit.

EU heads of state or government meet on 29 June 2018 in Brussels to review, in an EU 27 format, the state of play of Brexit negotiations and adopt conclusions on progress made. The Euro summit, also in an inclusive format (EU27), discusses the reform of the economic and monetary union.
EU heads of state or government meet on 28 June 2018 in Brussels to focus on migration, security and defence, as well as economic and financial affairs. Leaders are expected to discuss the internal and external dimensions of migration policy, including the reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS). EU leaders are expected to adopt conclusions on several issues recently debated under the Leaders' Agenda, such as taxation, innovation and digital. The European Council also endorses the country specific recommendations under the 2018 European Semester and discusses the future handling of the multi-annual financial framework (MFF), including a timeline. Leaders also discuss trade. In terms of security and defence, leaders discuss EU-NATO cooperation ahead of the NATO summit in July and provide orientations for further work, in particular on permanent structured cooperation (PESCO). The European Council also addresses military mobility, the European Defence Fund, the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP) and Civilian Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). In light of events, the European Council may address specific foreign policy issues.
