President Charles Michel met President Nicos Anastasiades in Nicosia. He reiterated the EU’s complete solidarity with Cyprus.

European Council President Charles Michel visited the Moria Camp on the Greek island of Lesbos and underlined the European solidarity for the migrants, for the people of Lesbos and for all the aid workers.

Upon his arrival in Greece, President Michel spoke at a press briefing together with Prime Minister Mitsotakis.

European Council President Michel, European Commission President von der Leyen, German Chancellor Merkel and Chinese President Xi met by video conference. They discussed EU-China relations including climate change, economic and trade issues. Leaders also discussed international and other issues of concern and exchanged views on responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 1 October, Members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold and exchange of views with Roland Kobia, the EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan. Two weeks after the launch of the direct Intra-Afghan Negotiations between the Government of Afghanistan and the Taliban movement MEPs will be able to hear from the EU Special Envoy the prospects for a genuine peace process in the country and its impact on the EU-Afghanistan relations.
