General : After five years’ existence, the transparency register, of independent organisations and people whose business is to influence EU decision-taking processes, is to evolve into a mandatory system covering all EU institutions. This is "an eagerly-awaited reform", said European Parliament Vice-President Sylvie Guillaume, welcoming the proposed inter-institutional agreement tabled by the European Commission on 28 September.

Should EU Structural and Investment Funds for Spain and Portugal be suspended, following Council’s 12 July decision to trigger the “excessive deficit” procedure? General : The European Parliament is sending a delegation of MEPs to Colombia this week to accompany and monitor its referendum on the newly signed peace agreement. MEPs “expect and hope” that on Sunday 2 October Colombian voters will back the peace agreement reached by the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Általános : Már most is olcsóbban mobilozunk egy másik uniós országban, de 2017 közepétől teljesen eltörlik a roaming díjakat az EU-ban a Parlament, a Tanács és a Bizottság tavalyi megállapodásának köszönhetően. Az EP azon dolgozik, hogy a barangolási díjak valóban megszűnjenek jövőre, a cél az, hogy mind a fogyasztók, mind a telekommunikációs cégek jól járjanak a változással. Általános : A Panama-iratok botrányát kirobbantó újságírókat hallgatja meg kedden az EP bizottsága, amely az offshore cégeket és haszonélvezőiket vizsgálja. Az Oknyomozó Újságírók Nemzetközi Konzorciumának (ICIJ) újságírói egy éven át dolgoztak a panamai ügyvédi irodától származó dokumentumok és adatok összegyűjtésén, amelyek a valaha látott egyik legnagyobb offshore botrányt tárták fel. The recovery in the euro area is expected to continue at a moderate and steady pace, but slower than envisaged in June due to a lower foreign demand outlook, European Central Bank President Mario Draghi told Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee members on Monday. On the positive side, he said that the euro area economy showed resilience to global and political uncertainty, notably following the UK referendum outcome.

Plans to waive visa requirements for Ukrainian citizens entering the Schengen area were approved by the Civil Liberties Committee on Monday. If approved by Parliament and Council, it will allow Ukrainians who have a biometric passport to enter the EU area without a visa for 90 days in any 180-day period, for business, tourist or family purposes.

Általános : A Panama-iratok botrányát kirobbantó újságírókat hallgatja meg kedden az EP bizottsága, amely az offshore cégeket és haszonélvezőiket vizsgálja. A roamingdíjak eltörlése is napirenden lesz, az ipari szakbizottság az Európai Bizottság második határozat-tervezetét tárgyalja hétfőn. A költségvetési szakbizottság az Unió 2017-es büdzsétervezetéhez érkezett mintegy 2200 módosító javaslatról szavaz.

General : Members of the Euro-Latin American parliamentary Assembly “expect and hope” that the “historic” peace agreement between the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) will be approved in the referendum to be held on 2 October. Once the deal is approved and the definitive and irreversible laying down of weapons is confirmed, they add, the FARC should be removed from the EU’s list of terrorist organisations.

With around 1.5 million refugees fleeing to Lebanon since the start of the war in Syria, it is clear that the situation in the country is untenable and that substantial help is needed to avoid a complete breakdown, not only in terms of financial assistance, but also through improved resettlement tools, says Civil Liberties Committee Chair Claude Moraes, who this week headed a delegation to Beirut.

General : Deepening the integration of the EU and Latin America is the best way to respond to common challenges, agreed parliamentarians from both sides of the Atlantic at the opening of the ninth plenary session of the Euro-Latin Parliamentary Assembly (EuroLat), on Tuesday in Montevideo (Uruguay). The economic situation, trade relations between the EU and Latin America and between both regions and China, managing migration flows and fighting terrorism are also on the agenda.

A folyamatban mérföldő volt, amikor 40 évvel ezelőtt a tagállamok miniszterei aláírták a kövzetlen EP-választásokról szóló szabályokat. Három évvel később, 1979-ben választották meg először az uniós állampolgárok az EP-képviselőket.

A gondolat- és véleményszabadságért folytatott küzdelem elismeréseként járó díj nyertesét októberben választják ki.
