EU-Ukraine Summit 2017

The 19th EU-Ukraine Summit takes place on 12-13 July 2017 in Kyiv. The European Union is represented by Donald TUSK, President of the European Council, and Jean-Claude JUNCKER, President of the European Commission. Ukraine is represented by President Petro POROSHENKO. The agenda of the summit focuses on three main issues: the conflict in Eastern Ukraine and Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, including the implementation of the Minsk agreements, the reform process, and the regional and international situation.

The 2017 Western Balkans Summit in Trieste, Italy is the upcoming fourth annual summit within the Berlin Process initiative for European integration of Western Balkans states. The summit takes place on 12 July 2017.

Informal Meeting of Environment Ministers - July 2017

On Thursday 13 July and Friday 14 July, the Informal Meeting of Environment Ministers is held at Tallinn Creative Hub (Kultuurikatel). The informal ministerial meeting focuses on eco-innovation, as well as on climate change in discussions on the expectations, opportunities, and potential challenges related to the promotion of the transformative vision and goals of the Paris Agreement in collaboration with non-state actors.

EU Finance ministers meet on 11 July 2017 in Brussels to adopt conclusions on a mid-term review of the EU's capital markets union action plan, and on non-performing loans in the banking sector. Informal Meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers - July 2017

On Thursday 6 July and Friday 7 July, the Informal Meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers is held at Tallinn Creative Hub (Kultuurikatel). Ministers focus their discussions on the security and safety of Europe, as this is the main concern of people today – more so than any other issue. The subjects discussed are migration, cooperation with the Ukraine, interoperability of EU databases, data retention, sale of consumer goods, the future of e-justice, and mutual recognition of freezing and confiscation orders.

G20 leaders meet in Hamburg, Germany, on 7 and 8 July 2017. The theme of the German presidency of the G20 is 'Shaping an interconnected world'. Leaders discuss the main topics of economic, financial, climate, trade, employment and development policy. Migration and refugee flows and counter-terrorism are other key issues of global significance that appear on the summit agenda. The President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission represent the EU at the summit.

EU-Japan Summit 2017

The EU-Japan summit takes place on 6 July 2017 in Brussels. At the summit, leaders are expected to announce a political agreement on the EU-Japan free trade agreement and the EU-Japan strategic partnership agreement. The EU is represented by Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, and Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission. Japan is represented by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Energy) - June 2017

EU Ministers for Transport, Infrastructure, and Communications meet in Luxembourg on 26 June 2017 and are expected to reach a general approach on two proposals under the Clean Energy package: the revised directives on energy efficiency and on energy performance of buildings. The Council is also taking note of progress on the other legislative files included in the package regarding in particular governance, energy from renewable sources and electricity market design.

European Council - June 2017 (Day 2)

EU heads of state or government meet on 23 June 2017 in Brussels to discuss economic and trade issues. Leaders are reaffirming their commitment to free trade and investment, while ensuring it is also fair and the benefits are reciprocal. European Central Bank's President Draghi is informing leaders about the economic situation. The heads of state and government are also finalising the European Semester process. Afterwards, leaders are taking stock of ongoing measures to tackle migration issues and assess where further efforts are needed. Finally, leaders are discussing how to move towards a digital vision for Europe.

European Council - June 2017 (Day 1)

EU heads of state or government meet on 22 June 2017 in Brussels to discuss counterterrorism and how to better combat radicalisation. The European Council is also expected to support a strengthening of EU cooperation on external security and defence.  The working dinner is focused on foreign policy issues in light of recent summits and meetings, including with the US and Turkey leaders. The European Council is reaffirming its commitment to the Paris Agreement on climate. Leaders are also taking stock of the implementation of the Minsk agreements. At the end, PM May is informing the leaders about the Brexit negotiations. After the dinner, a session of the European Council (Article 50) is taking place, where the EU27 leaders are discussing the state of play of Brexit negotiations with the UK. In the margins of this meeting, the heads of state and government are expected to endorse the procedure to decide on the relocation of the two EU agencies currently located in the UK.

Today, the European Union remains a steady and significant supporter of Kenya’s economic and social development, and a major partner in the country’s integration into the global marketplace. The entry into force of the Cotonou Agreement on April 1st 2003 provides a framework for the continuation of this partnership.

In the afternoon, ministers discuss the state of play of Brexit negotiations and, in the margins of the Council meeting, the relocation of the EU agencies currently located in the UK.

EU Ministers for Environment meet in Luxembourg on 19 June 2017 and are expected to restate the commitment of the EU and its member states to the Paris Agreement and its full implementation. Ministers are looking at the progress made and holding a policy debate on the two legislative proposals to cut greenhouse gas emissions in sectors not covered by the ETS: the effort-sharing regulation and the regulation on land-use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF). Also, the Council is adopting conclusions on the EU Plan for nature, people and the economy.

EU Finance ministers meet on 16 June 2017 in Luxembourg and are called on to agree on two banking union proposals and conclusions on non-performing loans, as well as two proposals on VAT. Ministers are due to approve country-specific recommendations on economic and fiscal policies and to close two excessive deficit procedures. They are also discussing terrorist financing and progress on the EU's capital markets union.
